Erard concert grand piano

2 September 2013

Erard concert of 1875

We recovered this piano from a castle in the Vexin region of France, which was rotten with humidity.

We decided to restore it completely, in order to propose it for rent for romantic music concerts (19th century).

The first step was to flip and varnish the soundboard.
Then we redid the frame and changed the bed base, which is not without difficulty on an Erard, because the bed base is embedded in the belt.
The bass strings have been redone as originally, in brass, by Baumgartel in Germany.
The white strings (medium and high) are made of soft steel and supplied by Stephen Paulello.
The harmonic part is finished. We will start the restoration of the rosewood furniture.
