Work on a piano soundboard

9 December 2021

Piano Pleyel 225

It is in our workshop that we completely restored the soundboard of this Pleyel 2.25 m from 1905.

To gain access to the soundboard of this piano, it was first necessary to remove all the strings and pins. Then we used a goat to remove the cast iron frame which weighs around 300 kg.

Once the soundboard was free of all these elements, we sanded it down to return to raw wood in order to be able to make flipots.

The piano belt and the remaining elements, such as the bridges, are protected in order to apply a hard primer which allows the wood to be prepared before finishing.
